Lakadong Turmeric Powder

Curcuma longa · Lakadong cultivar

The turmeric Meghalaya is famous for.

Lakadong is the cultivar that put Meghalaya on the world's spice map. Grown at altitude under forest shade, its curcumin content routinely tests between 7% and 12% — several times higher than the commodity turmeric found in most kitchens. We rhizome-select, sun-dry, and stone-grind in small batches to keep the aromatic oils intact.

Tasting notes

  • ·Deep saffron colour
  • ·Warm, resinous aroma
  • ·Natural, unpolished finish

Ing Makhir Ginger Powder — organic ginger from Meghalaya farmers
More Gingerol

5× gingerol

Ing Makhir Ginger Powder

Zingiber officinale · Ing Makhir landrace

A ginger so pungent it has its own name.

Ing Makhir is a rare landrace ginger indigenous to Meghalaya. Fresh rhizomes carry 60–70 mg of 6-gingerol per gram, compared to just 1–4 mg/g in standard ginger — the compound behind its sharp aroma, warmth, and traditional medicinal use. We shade-dry the sliced rhizome and stone-grind on the same week to lock in volatile oils.

Tasting notes

  • ·Bright, citrus-forward heat
  • ·Woody, lingering finish
  • ·Fine, silky powder

How to use

Perfect for chai, marinades, broths, and wellness tonics. Warming without harshness.

Meghalaya Whole Black Pepper — organic black pepper from Meghalaya farmers
Pure · Organic · Bold

Meghalaya Whole Black Pepper

Piper nigrum

Handpicked from the mist-belt.

Our pepper vines climb wild in the lush, monsoon-fed hills of the Garo region. Berries are picked at just-ripe, sun-cured on bamboo mats, and left whole so aroma stays sealed inside the corn until you grind it. Bold heat, complex fruit — the way pepper is supposed to taste.

Tasting notes

  • ·Warm, resinous top note
  • ·Round citrus fruit
  • ·Long, gently smoky finish

How to use

Grind fresh over eggs, roast vegetables, steak, or into any curry base.

How we compare

Woods & Roots vs. supermarket spice

Most branded spice on the shelf is commodity turmeric or ginger — blended from many farms, polished, and heat-processed. Here's how our small-batch Meghalaya harvest stacks up, side by side.

Common questions

About our spices

Are your spices organic and additive-free?+

Yes. Every spice is grown without synthetic fertiliser or pesticide, and we add nothing — no anti-caking agents, no colour, no filler. Just the pure ground spice.

How do I know which farm my jar came from?+

The batch code printed on each pack maps to a specific village cluster and harvest window. Message us the code on WhatsApp and we'll share the farm story behind it.

How should I store the powders for best aroma?+

Keep them cool, dry, and out of direct sunlight. Reseal after each use. Small-batch spice is at its peak within 6–8 months of grinding.

Do you ship across India? And wholesale?+

Yes — we ship pan-India and take wholesale, gifting, and HoReCa enquiries. WhatsApp or email us to start a conversation.
